Matthew Ibrahim
Comparative Literature MA Student
Matthew Ibrahim is currently pursuing his Master's in Comparative Literature, with a focus on French and German lyric poetry of the 19th and early 20th century. He is interested in investigating the consciousness of finitude in western philosophy and literature, and the tension between a transcendence and a final acceptance, especially in relation to the awareness of death. He finds these themes in particular in the poetry of Wordsworth, Baudelaire, and Trakl. He has also been studying extensively in western philosophy, and seeking a potential future for empirical, vitalist, and phenomenological philosophies.
